mapverter

Terms of use

The free service

mapverter converts supported GIS files in your browser. You can process one dataset at a time with up to 20 MB of input files in total. Shapefile components with the same base name count as one dataset. There is no conversion-count limit, account requirement or payment in this version.

Buttons labelled Pro describe possible future features. They do not start a purchase or subscription.

Your data and results

You retain your rights to the files you open and the results you download. Only use data you are entitled to process. mapverter does not obtain ownership of your files or receive copies of their contents.

Keep your original files and check the conversion report, output attributes and coordinate system before using the result. Format limits can change field names, shorten text, omit styles or split geometry types. The tool can reject an unsupported conversion.

Accuracy and availability

Coordinate-system detection is a suggestion when the source does not supply a definition. Confirm it against the data provider's documentation. Do not rely on an unchecked conversion for surveying, safety decisions or official submissions.

We cannot promise uninterrupted availability or that every input file will convert correctly. Features and limits may change as the service develops. Nothing in these terms removes rights that applicable law does not allow to be excluded.

Third-party software and data

Open-source software, fonts and background map data are governed by their respective licenses. Attribution and project links are available in the open-source licenses page. File processing and usage statistics are explained in the privacy policy.
