Rows become features

Each row becomes one Feature in a single FeatureCollection. mapverter finds the coordinates by column name — latitude and longitude, X and Y, or a WKT column — and the remaining columns become properties. A WKT column can describe lines and polygons as well as points.

Rows whose coordinates are empty or invalid are not dropped. GeoJSON allows features without geometry, so they are kept with a null geometry and all their values.

Typed properties

  • A column becomes a JSON number only when every value is a plain number.
  • Codes with leading zeros, like 007, and very large integers stay as strings, so their values do not change.
  • Empty cells become null, and empty headers get names such as column1.

Coordinates in WGS 84

GeoJSON output is always WGS 84 longitude and latitude. Latitude and longitude columns are used as they are. Projected X and Y values are converted after you choose their coordinate system, from the offered candidates, a UTM zone picked on the map or an EPSG search, and converted coordinates are rounded to 7 decimal places.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to rows without coordinates?
They stay in the GeoJSON as features with a null geometry, keeping every column value. Other formats, such as KML or SHP, would leave them out.
Why are some numbers written as strings?
A column is numeric only when all of its values are plain numbers. Values with leading zeros, or integers too large to store exactly, are kept as strings so they stay identical.
Can I convert X and Y values in metres?
Yes. Choose their coordinate system first: pick from the offered candidates, click your area on the map to try the local UTM zone, or search by EPSG code or name. The map shows the result, and the coordinates are converted to WGS 84.
Is my CSV uploaded?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser.
