How placemarks map to GPX
- A point becomes a waypoint. A MultiPoint becomes one waypoint per point, each with the same name.
- A line becomes a track, and several lines in one placemark become one track with several segments.
- Altitude is written as
<ele>, the placemark name as<name>and the description as<desc>.
Polygons stop the conversion
GPX can only hold points and lines. If the KML contains polygons, including polygons inside a MultiGeometry, the GPX download is blocked and the reason is shown, so nothing is silently lost. A MultiGeometry that mixes only points and lines is split into separate waypoints and tracks.
What is left out
Folder paths, ExtendedData values and styles have no place in the GPX that mapverter writes. They are dropped, and the conversion report counts the fields that were left out. Placemarks without coordinates are skipped as well.
