ETRS89 coordinates in UTM zone 30N
EPSG:25830 is ETRS89 / UTM zone 30N, a Transverse Mercator projection in metres on the GRS80 ellipsoid. Its central meridian is 3° W, the latitude of origin is 0°, the scale factor is 0.9996, the false easting is 500,000 m and the false northing is 0 m.
The definition bundled with mapverter gives an area of use from 6° W to 0.01° E and 35.26° to 80.49° N. On the central meridian x is exactly 500,000 m: the point at 3° W, 40° N, for example, is x = 500,000 m and y = 4,427,757 m.
Distinguish EPSG:25830 from EPSG:23030
Spanish data in this zone may instead use ED50 / UTM zone 30N, EPSG:23030. Matching UTM zones do not make their datums interchangeable: reading ETRS89 values as ED50, or the reverse, moves the data by roughly 230 m, according to mapverter's bundled definitions.
How mapverter handles EPSG:25830
- A .prj is matched by its EPSG code or by its projection parameters, so ESRI-style names such as ETRS_1989_UTM_Zone_30N are recognized as well.
- Without a .prj, the Spanish interface offers EPSG:25830 first among the candidates that fit the data. Neighbouring zones and ED50 may be offered as well, so compare them on the map. The English interface does not suggest EPSG:25830, so search for 25830 by EPSG code in the coordinate system picker and check the result on the map.
- This page presets EPSG:25830 as the target for SHP and CSV output. KML, KMZ, GeoJSON and GPX always use WGS 84.
